General Education
With America's growing Asian population comes an increase in Asian American children attending school. American Born Chinese highlights just how painful negative stereotypes are, and helps to shed light on ways to combat this negativity as well as showing that inclusion and being open minded leads to improved relationships.

Asian American History
Schools in America are starting to require Asian American history as part of the public school curriculum. California, New Jersey, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Florida and Connecticut "have ignited similar pushes for curricula that are inclusive of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders". Gene Luen Yang, author of American Born Chinese is an Asian American himself, and the themes and characters referenced within his graphic novel would be an excellent addition to any Asian American history curriculum.
