Intercultural Studies

"While studying intercultural studies, you examine how race, culture and other factors impact social interactions. Understanding these barriers allows people around the world to interact and live harmoniously with each other. The purpose of intercultural studies is to further your knowledge of other nations and groups, allowing your own culture to bond and interact with others." American Born Chinese would be an excellent addition to any intercultural studies program as it directly relates to the mixing of American and Chinese culture.

American Born Chinese features both American and Chinese cultural aspects. Asian culture is becoming more important in America as the Asian American population increases. Between 2000 and 2019, Asian Americans were the fastest-growing racial ethnic group in the US with an 81% increase. With nearly nineteen million Asian Americans currently in the US, education and acceptance of Asian cultures has become an increased need in intercultural studies. American Born Chinese is a perfect graphic novel to visually and rhetorically display cultures.
