Mythology
Mythology is the study of myths or a body of myths regarding particular subjects. Myths are "a folklore genre consisting of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society, such as foundational tales or origin myths. The main characters in myths are usually non-humans, such as gods, demigods, and other supernatural figures". American Born Chinese features multiple figures from Chinese mythology and is a good introduction for children and young adults to become interested in myths.

Gods and myths within American Born Chinese
American Born Chinese remixes the tale of the Monkey King, a mythological god-like character from "Journey to the West". The Monkey King, or Sun Wukong (嫿‚Ÿç©º) lives on the mythological flower-fruit mountain as well, connecting not only mythological characters, but also locations as well. Various gods, goddesses, demons and spirits are also included in the story, and makes this novel an excellent choice when introducing mythological aspects to children or young adults.
